Fishing Report 4-17-08

Thursday, April 17th, 2008

Its been a beautiful week on the river.  The Corp. has decreased the amount of generation the last day or so, and most likely will keep it that way for a good while.  Fishing has been better than great!  The water was high most of the week, and lures did awesome.  I saw 2 browns caught this week that where 9 + pounds!  There are some chances on high water in the late afternoon, so bring a medium action spinning rod and a crank bait just in case.

Fly Fishing.

We finally have some good water again.  The water is super clear, so be sure to use a leader with 5x fluorocarbon tippet (6x) if your at the dam, or if the sun is bright).  Sow bugs (14) in all colors have been great, and I’m amazed at how well red Red San Jaun worms (12) have been working.  When fishing up at the dam try a sow bug with a black zebra midge (20).

Below is Conner from Little Rock with a HUGE bow.  He caught it on a 4 wht using a San Jaun Worm.

Spin Fishing.

If the water comes up start chucking lures.  Crank bait fishing has been great!  We boated over 20 nice fish in 2 hours yesterday.  Use a six inch rattling rouge.  They have been working great in a wide variety of colors.  Bait fishing has been great as well.  The Yellow Power bait dough has been working well.  Night crawlers have also been boating a lot of fish.

See you on the river,

Chris

Great Weather & Even better fishing!

Tuesday, April 8th, 2008

Its been a great week to be on the river.  We couldn’t ask for better conditions.  Generation has been very limited and the water has cleared up nicely.  Although the lake is as about as high as it gets, the flooding on the lower White is keeping the corp from releasing a ton of water.

Fly fishing.

This week sowbugs (14) and black zebra midges (20)  have been the key.  We boated well over 100 fish this past weekend using this combo.

We fished this week from the boat in about 5 feet of water.  Try using a nine foot 5x leader with a sowbug, and use a zebra midge dropper using 6x tippet.  It should work great!

Also the Caddis are starting to hatch… get ready for some dry fly fishing!!!

Spin fishing.

Roster tails worked very well this well.  Mainly in the rainbow trout and the fire tiger colors.

Bait has been doing great also.  Orange and yellow eggs tipped with a was worm have been the key.  Also if it rains again this week be ready to try some night crawlers!!

Enjoy this great weather!

I’ll see you on the river,

Chris
