Fishing Report 6-26-08
Thursday, June 26th, 2008High water! The corp has been running both units around the clock. However the end is in sight!!! I have been told that they will be turning off the water no later than July 9th. Until then, expect high water.
Bait fishing has been great on high water. Wax worms and power bait has been doing great. The water is too high to anchor, so drifting has been your best bet. Use the same setup as you normally would, but use a little less weight. This will keep you from getting hung up on the bottom. Also, when drifting, be sure to watch out for docks. I have seen a fair number of boats flipped from hitting docks.
Fly fishing hasn’t been the greatest. There is really too much water. It still can be done, but expect much less numbers than usual. The best bet on this high of water is to get a guide for a half a day. Our fly fishing guide have some great high water techniques, and in this high water they can watch the boat while you fish.
See you on the river,
Chris
