Fishing Report 6-26-08

High water! The corp has been running both units around the clock.  However the end is in sight!!!  I have been told that they will be turning off the water no later than July 9th.  Until then, expect high water.

Bait fishing has been great on high water.  Wax worms and power bait has been doing great.  The water is too high to anchor, so drifting has been your best bet.  Use the same setup as you normally would, but use a little less weight.  This will keep you from getting hung up on the bottom.  Also, when drifting, be sure to watch out for docks.  I have seen a fair number of boats flipped from hitting docks.

Fly fishing hasn’t been the greatest.  There is really too much water.  It still can be done, but expect much less numbers than usual.  The best bet on this high of water is to get a guide for a half a day.  Our fly fishing guide have some great high water techniques, and in this high water they can watch the boat while you fish.

See you on the river,

Chris

Fishing Report 6-11-08, and boat ramp update.

Wednesday, June 11th, 2008

What a great weekend of fishing.  The corp is keeping the same schedule.  Running 2 units of water from 6:00am until midnight.  This is giving us a great fishing window here at Lobo.  The water is a little high in the morning, but it fall out through out the morning.  It then comes back up around noon.  I have heard they are going to keep this pattern for another three weeks.  After that they are supposed to release much less water.  The corp will be running a bunch of water on the white, norfork, and beaver, so they will have to shut us down to prevent flooding on the lower white.  Until they shut us down, they corp will most likely start running more and more.

Fishing was great this weekend.  We caught a ton of rainbows, and 12 browns (3 over 20 inches.) Nymphing was been the ticket.  San Juan worms in all colors have been hammering the fish in the mornings, but when the current slows you will need to change to a bead head nymph.  Copper Johns, prince nymphs, and sow bug have been working great.

Spin fishing has been great as well.  Yellow power eggs and wax worms has been great!  Silver spoons on lower water have been slaying the fish.

Game and fish currently has the boat ramp completely closed.  It might be a couple of weeks before they get it back open.  However, since we have higher water in the morning, and high water in the afternoon, you can put your boat in at dripping springs in pangburn and run up river.

 See you on the river,

Chris
